Back Rejuvenation

Author: Dr Naomi / 28 Oct 2015

As the back ages, the following main changes will occur:

  • Pigmentation / sun damage
  • Aging of Skin
  • Lumps and Bumps Appear
  • Back fat may become a problem

So the back first need to be assessed to work out which changes are most important to treat.

Pigmentation / sun damage

As we age, especially those with lighter skin tones, we get more sun damage on our back. We get more freckles, solar lentigos and background actinic damage.

These problems are best treated with laser / IPL to improve mainly the colour, but also the texture.

Prevention of these problems is important, with sun avoidance and sunscreen. This can be challenging in the Australian climate

Back skin aging

Back skin goes through the normal process of skin aging, where the skin thins and becomes less elastic. The texture becomes less smooth, with more fine lines and wrinkles. These issues may  be treated with skin boosters, PRP or with fractional laser.

Lumps and bumps on the back

As we age, more lumps and bumps occur on the back. We become less smooth. Seborrhoeic keratoses (old age/senile warts) become common on the back. These are easily treated with single spot erbium laser. Backs can be made completely smooth again

Back Fat

Liposuction may be required
