Sunscreen absorbs or reflects some of the sun’s UV rays. It helps protect against sunburn and sun damage.
There are 2 types of sunscreen:
- Chemical Sunscreens: which absorb the UV light and
- Physical Sunscreens: which reflect the UV light (eg those containing titanium dioxide and zinc oxide or a combination of both)
The SPF is an imperfect measure as it does not take into account exposure to UVA (which does not cause reddening or pain)
Sunscreens need to be broad spectrum (ie protect against UVB and UVA) Many sunscreens give adequate UVB cover but not UVA. Products containing zinc oxide may be the best for coverage for UVA.
Sunscreen is the most important face cream.
It is also the most vital antiaging cream on the market.
It should be part of your daily routine.
